Content Manager

at Creative Spark in Cape Town

Creative Spark is a fast-growing, young, ambitious 40-person digital agency and online publishing business. Now part of the M&C Saatchi Group with offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg, we are looking for a Content Manager to be part of our ambitious growth plans in Cape Town
We run five award-winning online brands, including, that are locally and internationally reputable, and our digital agency services clients like Danone, Philips and Kimberly Clark.

The individual should have a marketing and publishing mind-set. In effect, the Content Manager is a corporate storyteller who must find the best ways of conveying our clients’ brand essence through various digital marketing channels.

Job Description

The Content Manager will be responsible for crafting and managing the execution of various forms of digital content, including but not limited to social media, website, newsletter, blog, paid advertising, and SEO content.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Together with the creative team, create content plans in line with a brand’s strategy and tone
  • Create new pieces of content, manage how messages are timeously distributed, measure response and tailor future efforts accordingly
  • Write content that is suitable – understand why the bigger story matters and how to discover, articulate and communicate it
  • Curate content strands and edit pieces of content to ensure a high standard of quality and relevance to users
  • Liaise with client and addressing key queries around content – understand what kind of publicity is sought and how to get it
  • Drive engagement and conversations with the community and ultimately establishing brand loyalty
  • Identify tactical and relevant opportunities to engage – creating / tailoring exiting new content to the needs of the audience in the context of client product and or industry
  • Work closely with the Analytics team to drive positive sentiment and optimisation, and input insights into reports as and when required
  • Be holistic to ensure a brand is not overshadowed by off-brand messages and ideas
  • Execute and optimise content during campaigns to ensure momentum and visibility
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest trends within the digital and social media landscape
  • Input into campaign ideas and creative brainstorming sessions
  • Work in conjunction with community managers to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms

Personal Skills/Attributes

  • 2-3 years of content creation experience
  • Relevant Undergraduate degree (Marketing, Communications, English, Media Studies)
  • Proficiency in at least one South African language other than English and Afrikaans
  • An understanding of copyright infringement and consumer privacy on digital platforms
  • Professional manner
  • Pride in work with attention to detail
  • Well-developed sense of humour and enjoys being part of a team
  • Independent and self -motivated
  • Confident and proactive
  • Solution and deadline driven
  • Ability to adapt (any environment, systems, processes, and procedures)
  • Time management and multitasking skills – ability to prioritise and track time
  • Display knowledge, understanding & proficiency of Social Media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest, as well as emerging platforms etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Excellent writing and language skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
