Junior Data Scientist
in Cape Town
DataProphet is an established machine learning and artificial intelligence start-up. As ML specialists we are comprised of a diverse team of skilled computer scientists, statisticians, actuaries, engineers and mathematicians who are able to deliver something which has previously been unavailable to entities smaller than a nation-state – actionable artificial intelligence solutions.
We have a suite of products, we consult and we build cool things – like an emotion recognition engine to make games more immersive for a major international publisher, wheelchairs that can be controlled by thought using the ML classification of EEG signals and drones that can identify poachers in the wild.
Our team is growing and we are out to find a Junior Data Scientist. We are looking for candidates with high energy, knowledgeable in the field of machine learning and able to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment. Many of our projects require that we apply existing techniques in novel ways, or come up with new solutions altogether. Responsibilities will thus include small research projects to prove whether or not a certain approach would work in practice; and to adapt it where necessary.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of and interest in machine learning algorithms e.g.: boosting methods, Artificial Neural Networks
- BSc/Honours in a related field, specifically Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering
- Experience in handling, interpreting and analyzing data efficiently
- Python (Knowledge of machine learning libraries would be advantageous, e.g.: sklearn, TensorFlow)
- Previous data-science/predictive analytics work experience is advantageous but we are also looking for fresh graduates
We’re located in Green Point, Cape Town, in an awesome start-up office complete with astro-turfed floors, an arcade machine and all the free coffee you could want. Our culture is focused on machine learning. The conversations in the office frequently centre on applications of machine learning to real world situations as well as new achievements such as AlphaGo. We enjoy participating in Kaggle competitions and have implemented a number of the deep TensorFlow networks for our own interest. If this interests you too, and you have delved into some of them yourself, we would like to include you in the conversation – and the team.
Send a 2-page CV to firstname.lastname@example.org with a cover letter telling us a bit about yourself and why you would be the perfect fit for the job and we will be in touch.
